School desks per GOST 11015-93: choosing the right desk by child height
A desk that does not match a child height risks posture and eyesight problems, and for a school it can mean remarks from sanitary inspection or during a tender check. Here is how the GOST 11015-93 standard (withdrawn on 01.01.2026, yet still a practical reference) defines desk types, sizes and colour marking.
What GOST 11015-93 covers
The standard "School desks. Types and functional dimensions" (GOST 11015-93, harmonised with ISO 5970-79) was in force in Ukraine until the end of 2025: from 01.01.2026 it was withdrawn by UkrNDNC order No. 272 of 29.08.2025, though its height groups are still widely used in tender specifications. Desks are used together with chairs per GOST 11016. Current requirements are set by DSTU EN 1729; both rely on matching furniture to the child height, which is also required by the Sanitary Regulation (MoH order No. 2205 of 25.09.2020).
